It took a lot of planning, but the staff and I were able to pull off another surprise birthday party for Teacher Shally, BEA’s managing director and head teacher. Last year, we called him downstairs to the library for an “emergency,” and we were all waiting there for him with cake and decorations. This year was a bit more difficult because he was expecting another surprise. To avoid any suspicion about our plans, we told him that we’d have a staff lunch and cake for him before the start of teacher training – just as we do for the staff. This was our “fake” party. Once he started his last lesson for the day, I ran out to get his cake that I had already ordered a few days before, and Sreynet, BEA’s librarian, had students blow up balloons and sign birthday cards. In the middle of his lesson, we burst into his classroom with his cake and balloons. A complete surprise!!!
