One of my best memories from the month of September was Chieu's surprise birthday. Chieu works incredibly hard as our school assistant, so we took a bit of break to give her a special day and to show her how much we appreciate everything she does for us. It's also a chance for the staff to satisfy their sweet tooth, something they don't really get the chance to do in their own lives. Finally, it's a chance for me to share my own culture - Canadian and Japanese - with the staff. One of my favorite things is the Japanese "shikishi" - a signboard that a group of people sign to give to someone on a special occasion.
